Places of interest

Rethymnon (5km)

The city of Rethymnon is a small city which preserves a vivid medieval-renaissance color. The old, but exceptionally preserved city center is located beneath the walls of its sleepless guard, the Venetian Fortezza fortress. The coastline of the Municipality of Rethymnon is characterized by the beautiful sandy beach, the clean sea, the Venetian port, the picturesque alleys and the openhearted citizens.

Beach (3 km)
The 5km long sandy beach of Rethymnon is fully organized, offering a great variety of water sports activities, and is awarded with Blue Flag.
Heraklion Airport (80 km)

The Heraklion airport "Nikos Kazantzakis" or Heraklion International Airport is the second busiest airport in Greece. It took its name from the famous author Nikos Kazantzakis and is 4km from the center of the city of Heraklion.

Chania Airport (70 km)

Chania Airport "Ioannis Daskalogiannis" or Chania International Airport is the second busiest airport in Crete. It took its name from Ioannis Daskalogiannis, a Cretan rebel against Ottoman rule in the 18th century. Chania Airport is situated 14km from Chania city.

Super Market Pavlakis

Taverna (3 km)

Gas Station (3 km)

Arkadi (20 km)

The Holy Monastery of Arkadi is located at an altitude of almost 500 metres, in the north-western foothills of Psiloritis, and constitutes a historic symbol because, during the revolution of 1866-69, Kostis Yiampoudakis from the village of Adele set fire to the powder magazine where all the besieged had gathered, and blew up the whole monastery; thus it became an eternal symbol of freedom.

Mili Gorge (6 km)

Mili Gorge is a stunning green oasis near the town of Rethymnon. It is located north of the village Chromonastiri and south of Xero Chorio. In recent years it attracts many walkers who trek along a nice trail. At the middle of the canyon we meet the deserted village of Mili (i.e. Mills) which is divided into two neighbourhoods, Ano (Upper) and Kato (Lower) Mili. Its name is taken after the water mills that were housed in the gorge, about 30.

Βali (33 km)
The seaside resort of Bali is located in a large gulf, 30km east of Rethymnon. Bali has four beaches, which are formed in sandy coves with nice greenish waters. The beaches are almost always calm, since the direction of Bali is western. They all are suitable for children and well organized. Moreover, water is cool because of the several springs that carry fresh water into the sea.
Spili (26 km)

Spili is located about 30km south of Rethymnon, at an altitude of 430m, at the foot of Mount Vorizis, an offshoot of Psiloritis Mt. The lush vegetation of the village is caused by the gurgling river flowing south of the village. The river is full of trout and can be accessed through a path of great natural beauty. One of the main attractions of the village are the numerous traditional water mills still surviving near the river. In particular one of them is still in operation, while the beautiful scenery is completed by the European path E4-route 20 "Spili - Gerakari" which runs next to the church the Holy Spirit and through the olive groves north of the village. Lastly, next to the village, starts the most beautiful canyon of Rethymnon, Kourtaliotiko Gorge, exiting at the famous palm grove of Preveli.

Plakias (38 km)

Plakias is a popular tourist resort, located 36km south of Rethymnon city, at the exit of a fertile valley surrounded by high mountains and dense olive groves. Next to it empties the river Kotsifos. One of the major growth drivers of the region is the long beachfront, known as Gialia. The main beach starts near the town and extends to the east for 1.3km. It is a well organized beach, with cool green waters. West of the village, between the village and the new harbour of Plakias, lies the second beach of Skinos. Skinos has many rocks and sand. Next to the village, the beach is slightly organized with umbrellas, while as you head to the west it gets rockier. Skinos is ideal for fishing and snorkelling. The road that heads to the nearby beach of Souda comes along this beach.

Preveli (39 km)

Preveli is located about 35km south of Rethymnon and 10km east of Plakias. Beach of Preveli, also known as Lake Preveli or Phoenix, is located at the exit of the imposing Kourtaliotikos Gorge, where the Great River (Megas Potamos) is flowing. You can walk along the river, under the shade of palm trees and other trees, and start ascending in the beautiful canyon. You can swim in the cold ponds formed in the gorge. At the exit of the river, a sandy beach with pebbles and sand is formed, with sea water being very cool due to the river. It is certainly the most famous beach in southern Crete, accepting thousands of visitors every summer. During the 60s and 70s, it was a favorite destination for hippies.
